FAQs
The Remora Surfboard Bag incorporates a new type of securing system - so naturally, you might have some questions… if we haven’t covered it here, do contact us
-
Because it solves the friction of the last 50 years. The time taken to rack and secure a board with legacy tie-down systems is slow and prone to error. The Remora Velocity™ drastically reduces this transition time compared to the threading and tightening required by traditional straps.
Safety Note: Speed does not mean compromise. The system features Triple Redundancy, with four integrated straps securing the board independently to the roof bars, ensuring fail-safe retention. -
The Remora Velocity™ is engineered for rapid deployment. Once the system is docked to your roof which should take around 90 seconds, extracting a board takes approximately 15 seconds. Re-racking and securing the board takes 20 seconds. This ‘Zero-Friction’ workflow is significantly faster than traditional tie-down straps.

Answer: Yes. The current Remora Velocity™ system requires standard vehicle roof bars or racks to function.
Future Compatibility: We are currently developing a custom-fit Soft Attach™ system for vehicles without fixed racks. If you require a rack-less solution, please sign up for our newsletter to be notified when this system drops.

The system uses a Variable-Length Roll-tail Chassis to cover a wide range of quiver lengths with zero drag. Choose the configuration that matches your primary ride:
MEDIUM (M): Fits boards 5’3” – 7’3”.
LONG (L): Fits boards 7’3” – 9’3” (Includes integrated main fin slot).
Future Development: We are currently engineering an ‘XL / Logger’ edition for traditional longboards (9’4”+). If you require this longer length range, please contact us to register your interest for the next hardware drop.

Answer:Yes. The Remora Velocity™ is designed to fit multiple board types and has been tested with major softboard brands.
The Remora Surfboard Bag is also extra-kind to soft-boards where the transition from the bottom-slick to the soft rails, a point where delamination and water ingress often starts and is brought about by over tightening of thin strapping.Critical Fitment Note: Please be aware that the extra thickness of some softboards pulls up vertically on the volume of the bag. This consumes fabric and effectively shortens the available length by up to 2 inches. If your softboard is within 2 inches of the maximum length range, we recommend sizing up or testing - contact us for your closest distributor.

No. Traditional tie-downs rely on ‘compression friction’—crushing the board against the roof bars to keep it secure. The Remora Velocity™ utilizes Anti-Crush Geometry. The system anchors the bag to the vehicle, creating a structural shell. Your board is suspended inside the Engineered Impact Shield, with the help of the additional integrated under-board foam pads ensuring the holding force is absorbed by the chassis, not your delicate fiberglass board rails.

Likely not, provided they are set to the manufacturer’s recommended spacing. The Remora attachment system is engineered to fit the standard roof bar spacing recommended by major manufacturers for accessories like cycle carriers.
Ideal Spacing: For maximum stability, we recommend an inner-face spacing of 790mm ( 31 inches) between bars.
You can test the bar spacing by checking that the integrated extra soft 23mm of progressive padding which acts like soft pillows for your board is the part in contact with your roof bars.

Unlike limited-length bags, the Remora Velocity™ utilizes a Roll-Lock Tail System. The tail section of the bag rolls tightly toward the tail of the surfboard and is secured via the integrated webbing under tension. This minimises flapping fabric and ensures a custom, aerodynamic fit for any board length within the specified range.

Item description
-
Remora Surf operates a global R&D networkof surfer-engineers. The concept was designed and prototyped in Australia with further engineering refinement and stress-testing conducted on the Atlantic coast of Portugal. After more than 12 months of extensive searching, visits, and interviews, we have the best manufacturing partner based in Asia at world-class technical textile facilities to ensure precision and scalability - so we can bring the Remora Velocity to the world.
-
The "Velocity" profile is specifically designed to minimize the aero-acoustic footprint. By rolling the tail tight and tucking the webbing into the integrated Anti-Flutter Scroll, the system minimises the vibration and humming common with standard tie-down straps at highway speeds.

Yes. The Remora Velocity™ is designed to stay on more than a regular bag. The 600D Armoured Polyester is UV-stabilized to withstand direct sun exposure, and the YKK® Marine Grade hardware resists salt corrosion, meaning you can leave the system docked for the duration of your surf trip.
Like any product not made from metal, sun and elements will degrade the materials over time and they may fade, so when docked at home it is always sensible to keep the bag out of harsh sunlight especially in Australia where UV intensity is higher. -
International Shipping: Yes. We provide global shipping from our logistics hubs in Australia and Portugal.
Warranty: Every bag comes with a comprehensive 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects. Also if the hardware does not meet our Mission Critical standards upon arrival, we offer a return and exchange process.
Care: To ensure longevity, rinse the YKK® Marine Grade zippers with fresh water after exposure to heavy salt spray. Store the bag in a cool, dry environment when not docked to your vehicle.
-
Verification: Always verify correct attachment and tension before driving and check regularly during long trips.
Inspection: Regularly inspect gear for signs of wear or damage.
Fasteners: Always clear sand, hair, wax and other debris from the hook-and-loop fastener panels (like you would with your leg leash cuff).
Intended Use: The Remora Surf™ bag system is designed exclusively for surfboards—use for other loads is at your own risk. The Velocity is designed for a single properly fitting board.
Liability: Misuse or incorrect installation can lead to vehicle damage or personal injury—user assumes all risks and responsibilities, as you do when you tie down your board with old-style straps.
